I wrote in an earlier post that the dantian (or "tanden" in Japanese), which is our center of gravity, is perhaps the most condensed point in a person. According to Michio Kushi, humans are the most condensed "spirals" in the universe, so it follows that the dantian is the most condensed point in the universe.
Is there any way to back this claim up, and does it have any bearing on our lives ? Well, according to the late Herman Aihara, blood plasma is formed in the wall of the small intestine in the area of the dantian. Mr.Aihara goes on to explain that blood plasma is the most "yang" (meaning condensed) part of man, with a potassium to sodium ratio of 1:10 - 1:16. He also says that when the blood plasma has been formed then humans are ready to begin their spiritual development or evolution. (Red blood cells are formed from the plasma, and body cells are formed from red blood cells that acquire DNA). We are able to live in a human body and develop in the area of mentality or spirituality.
From the above information we can start to get a glimmer of why the ancients of the Far East placed such emphasis on the dantian in various artistic/physical disciplines and spiritual practices.
